Waist-to-Hip Ratio (WHR)
Measure Your Waist
Locate Your Waist: Find the narrowest part of your torso, usually above the belly button and below the ribcage.
Wrap the Tape: Use a flexible tape measure and wrap it around your waist, keeping it parallel to the ground.
Check the Fit: Ensure the tape is snug but not tight, and measure at the end of a normal exhale.
Read the Measurement: Record the number where the tape overlaps.
Measure Your Hips
Locate Your Hips: Find the widest part of your hips and buttocks.
Wrap the Tape: Wrap the tape measure around this widest point, ensuring it stays level and parallel to the ground.
Check the Fit: The tape should be snug without compressing your skin.
Read the Measurement: Record the measurement where the tape meets.
Formula
A lower WHR generally indicates a lower risk of health issues associated with obesity, such as cardiovascular diseases, especially in women. For men, a WHR above 0.90 and for women above 0.85 is considered indicative of higher health risks.
